Stairs and elevators are two areas that are considered "special" when considering the installation of carpet. The traditional methods of over pad or direct glue-down still must be chosen but the size of these areas along with additional materials required, make them more challenging installations.
Stairs in particular can be challenging and in most cases are not covered under the carpet manufacturer's warranty. Stairs can be installed with the carpet going over the nosing and down the riser (waterfall), or tightly wrapped to the nosing and riser (tailored), or totally wrapped around an open stair tread with no riser (hollywood).
