The stretch in installation is a method in which carpet is fastened under tension around the perimeter of the carpeted area. A carpet cushion is generally used to provide additional resilience, acoustical quality, thermal insulation, comfort underfoot and additional carpet life. The carpet is stretched and fastened to the floor with tackless strips. The method of fastening the tackless strip to the sub-floor varies with the type of floor, but must always be installed with the pins facing the wall. Stretching a commercial carpet should be done using power stretchers rather than knee kickers. Callbacks and complaints are fewer when power stretchers are used.
Installations that benefit from the stretch over pad method include: executive suites, lobby areas, conference rooms, retail sales islands, small retail shops, hospitality guest rooms, religious facilities, reception areas and furniture store display areas.
