Package dyeing is similar to skein dyeing in that it is a yarn coloration process. In package dyeing the yarns are wound onto perforated cylinders and stacked on posts in the dye vat. The dye is forced up the posts and through the cylinders, coloring the yarns from the inside out. Package dyeing inhibits yarn bulk development and therefore is used on a limited basis for carpet yarns.
