During the finishing process, the carpet is held firmly on each side by a tenter frame to stretch the carpet and keep it from drawing up and shrinking as it goes through the dryer. The secondary backing is then applied to the carpet, which locks the stitches in place and provides dimensional stability to the carpet. This finishing step requires latex to be applied to the primary backing and to one side of the secondary backing. A press roller brings the two together. The carpet then goes through a dryer to cure the latex.
