Autoclave was the original heat-setting system. It is a batch system that requires moving the yarn from cones to skeins. The skeins are then tumble dyed to fluff the yarn and inserted into the autoclave unit. To set the twist into the nylon yarn, the temperature is raised to about 270 degrees. After the yarn is dried in the dryer it is rewound onto cones.
