The final yarn processing step is heatsetting. This process stabilizes the yarns by exposing them to heat and is done so each tuft of yarn in a finished carpet will retain its twist and beauty longer. The principal benefits are twist retention in plied yarns in cut pile carpet and general stabilization of yarn configuration. The three principal types of heatsetting are: Suessen, Autoclave and Superba.
