Blending is the first process in
converting staple fiber to yarn. Bales of staple fiber are prepared for blending in hopper
feeders. This process eliminates any variables and assures uniformity of the fiber from
bale to bale. Lubricants are added to assist during the manufacturing process. The fibers
can be tinted for identification purposes ("fugitive tint") and is removed later
in the carpet manufacturing process.
